New Footage Of Lionel Messi’s Incredible Reaction To Real Sociedad Defending His Free-Kick

Lionel Messi was left utterly perplexed when he realised the strategic defending plan Real Sociedad had put in place to stop him from scoring a free-kick.

The 32-year-old Argentine forward has become arguably the best free-kick taker in the world and has pulled off many magical moments from the set piece.

But even Messi faced an uphill task when Barcelona clashed with Sociedad last Saturday at the Camp Nou.

The Barcelona captain stood over the ball in the second half when the scores were 0-0, only for Sociedad to put their brilliant defending tactic into practice.

Imanol Alguacil's side had a three-man wall in place alongside seven players in the box, including two of them stationed on the line Alex Remiro.

And Messi shifted from his cool, collective self to a bemused face when he realised the tricky task he had on his hand.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner cleared the wall with his free-kick attempt, only for the ball to be headed out.

Messi would later seal a 1-0 victory for his side when he fired home from the spot-kick deep into the second half.

The Argentina captain was lucky to avoid a red card on the night for what appeared to be a nasty stamp on Diego Llorente.

Messi has remained in strong form for his club this season and scored 24 times across all competitions.

The Barca superstar has now moved ahead of fierce rival Cristiano Ronaldo to become the all-time top scorer in Euorpe's top-five leagues.

Quique Setien's side moved top of La Liga and are two points clear of fierce rivals Real Madrid, who suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Real Betis on Sunday.
