Franck Ribery Somehow Avoided A Red Card For This Disgusting Eye Gouge

How did he stay on the pitch?

While the main news to come out of Bayern Munich's penalty shootout victory over Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal final yesterday was focused on outgoing manager Pep Guardiola, one Bayern player is making headlines for the wrong reasons.

Franck Ribery was beyond lucky to still be on the field by the time he was replaced by Kingsley Coman in the 108th minute as he gouged the eye of Dortmund's Gonzalo Castro.

Tempers flared during the 39th minute of the final, at Berlin's Olympiastadion, when Ribery and Castro clashed. The Frenchman sunk his finger into Castro's left eye but somehow only received a booking, as did Castro for his part in the melee.

The scene is reminiscent of an incident that took place during Spurs' 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge recently, where Mousa Dembele gouged the eye of Diego Costa and received a six game ban as a result. Does the same fate await Ribery?
