And speaking a few years ago, BT Sport had three Premier League leaders talk about England duty and it was an incredible watch.

The former Manchester United defender pretty much summed up the situation, saying: "It was down to the obsession with winning.

"I didn't want to see Frank have an edge on me. I didn't want to speak to him about anything he'd be able to take away to facilitate his team winning.

"When I was with England with Stevie, when we were battling for the Premier League, I didn't want to sit around him and be around him because I just didn't want to hear about what Liverpool were doing."

Ferdinand continued by saying subconsciously he was more fixated on his club career as his side battled it out for major titles with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Blues hero echoed Ferdinand's sentiment, suggesting the club nature probably held England's golden era back from success.

Gerrard mentioned how the Brazilian boys would relish meeting up with their international teammates, saying England was more of a grueling regime.
