If you thought Real Madrid Facebook fan pages changing alliances when Cristiano Ronaldo joined Juventus was bad, then you haven't heard how many followers Los Blancos lost on his departure.
It has been revealed by website Tifo that Los Blancos lost one million Twitter followers inside 24 hours of the five-time Balon d'Or winner being announced, which just goes to show how much of a global brand Ronaldo is right now.
It shouldn't surprise us, though. The former Manchester United is the most followed athlete across a number of social platforms, including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
On signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Juve gained 4.7m followers across various social media platforms. Real lost 1m inside 24-hours.@EmmetGates explores a growing trend in modern fandom, as supporter affection is increasingly tied to the individual player:https://t.co/RjOHphRKA0 pic.twitter.com/95hTrYnIA4

I mean, approximately 520,000 Juventus shirts were sold either online or in-store in just 24 hours of his transfer being announced.
The man is a role model to millions around the world and clearly his appeal outgrows even one of the biggest football clubs in the world.
Juventus' social media growth has been through the roof on their channels ever since they confirmed the arrival of Ronaldo, with Twitter, Instagram and Facebook numbers increasing dramatically.

They might have forked out a whopping £99.3 million for a 33-year old Cristiano Ronaldo but they are already seeing some of the benefits his innate global appeal and marketability brings.
In just one month in Turin, the Cristiano Ronaldo has taken Juventus to a completely different level!:goat:
