Manchester United managerial candidate Erik ten Hag allegedly blew his chance of becoming Tottenham Hotspur boss after 'lacking charisma' and making 'odd demands' in his interview.

The 52-year-old is a candidate to become United's next permanent manager and has already been contacted by the club according to reports.

It isn't the first time he's been linked with a Premier League club, as Spurs were interested in his services last summer.

According to the Daily Mail, ten Hag failed to convince Spurs he was the right man for the job and they picked Nuno Espirito Santo instead.

Ten Hag is said to have been 'too bland' in his interview and made a demand that puzzled the Spurs board.

He was insistent on only bringing one coach with him, Sjors Ultee, rather than an entire backroom staff.

On top of that his English was said to have been 'no more than adequate', something he's since worked on.

Spurs opted to hire Nuno and despite a strong start, he was sacked in November after a horrific run of form.

They've since replaced him with Antonio Conte and are battling United for a place in the top four.

Ten Hag joined Ajax in 2017 and helped them win their first Eredivisie in five years in 2019.

That same year, he guided them to a Champions League semi-final, which they lost in dramatic fashion to Spurs.

Ironically they were managed by Mauricio Pochettino, who looks to be ten Hag's main rival for the United job.

United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November and appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season.

They're out of the Champions League and FA Cup and they'll end the season trophyless - meaning it'll be their longest barren run in 40 years.

Other names floated about include Spain national team coach Luis Enrique and Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui.

United legend Gary Neville polled fans on their preferred choice on Wednesday morning and a whopping 81% picked ten Hag over Pochettino.

Neville then admitted: "Personally I would go for Pochettino but ten Hag is the massive favourite of United fans to take the club forward. That's if it is a clear choice between the 2."
