Messi could be set for a shock move to English football...

Anyone who thinks Lionel Messi would struggle in English football should probably watch this video of him in action against the best the Premier League has to offer.

Even with six Ballon d'Ors and a whole host of incredible feats in his stunning career, there are still a small group of people who don't think Messi could cut it in the Premier League.

But with a move to England, specifically Manchester City, potentially on the cards after he told Barcelona he wants out, we're here to remind you that the Argentine has tore it up against the Premier League's top six.

In 34 games against English sides in the Champions League, Messi has 26 goals and six assists.

City, who could well be his next employers, have conceded six goals to him, while rivals Manchester United have seen him score four in six games against them - including strikes in the 2009 and 2011 Champions League finals.

He's scored in both games he's played against Spurs, while on the other half of North London it's Arsenal who have felt his full wrath.

Messi has hit nine goals against the Gunners, including an outrageous four-goal haul in 2010. That masterclass earned him a 10/10 rating from L'Equipe and prompted Arsene Wenger to describe him as a "PlayStation player".

Chelsea actually have the best record against the 33-year old and for a while he could not score against them to save his life. But he ended that drought in 2018 with three goals across the two round of 16 fixtures against the Blues.

Liverpool fans will point out that Messi's Barcelona completely collapsed at Anfield last year, yet he does have two goals in four games against the Premier League champions courtesy of a brilliant brace in the first leg at the Nou Camp.

It's worth noting that only compatriot Sergio Aguero and Jamie Vardy have scored more goals against the Premier League's top six. Not too bad considering Messi plays in a different league.

While the Premier League is intense and physically demanding, the notion that it's a completely different world to what Messi is used to is absolutely nonsense.

The whole "cold Tuesday night in Stoke" phrase falls flat when you consider he's played against a much better version of that team in Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid and thrived.

In fact, Messi himself has already dismissed the idea he'd struggle in the past.

As quoted by Sky Sports, he said: "Those that say that [I couldn't play in England] should realise I played in awful conditions in Rosario when I was 11 years old, with glass on the pitch, with holes and everything!"
