Never have so many football fans cared so much about one manager as Claudio Ranieri. The neutrals favourite could be on the verge of his first job since being sacked by Leicester City.

Ranieri was the unfortunate casualty to the Foxes appalling defence of their unbelievable Premier League title, and in fairness things have got better since his sacking.

However it wasn't the first time that the Roman was unlucky to be sacked when managing a club in the Premier League.

When the Italian was manager at Chelsea he was the first casualty to the Roman Abramovich era when the Russian sacked him at the end of his first season as owner of the London club.

That sacking made him a neutral's favourite in England and people were happy for him when he returned to the shores and then found success with Leicester.

And now there's a boost to both his fans and Ranieri.

Corriere dello Sport via Marca report that Palermo are lining up a move for Ranieri.

Diego Lopez is currently manager of the Italian side and the fourth manager that the club have had so far this season but it looks like Lopez' time is running out there.

Maurizio Zamparini was owner of the club for the past 15 years and went through 40 managers in his time but last month he stepped down.

President Baccaglini is ready to spend big to improve the club and if Ranieri is to get the manager's job then the plan would be to allow him to manager in Serie B if he can't save them from relegation.

The irony of Ranieri getting relegated and being able to keep his job ey!

Good luck Claudio, you bloody deserve it!
