Claude Makelele had a glittering career playing in some of Europe's best teams and playing with some of the finest players in world football.
The 43-year old has won league titles in England, France and Spain, won a Champions League and played in a World Cup final back in 2006.
Often a cliched question today is when players are asked to pick the best player they have ever played with. Makelele is the latest big-name player to be quizzed and had an array of elite, top level players to choose from.
Ronaldo (the original one), Zidane, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Arjen Robben, Thierry Henry, Raul and Luis Figo were all possible options for Makelele to choose from, but he went completely left-field.
In an interview with UEFA.com, he said:
"I'm not going to say Zidane, because he's my friend and I'm always talking about him! I'm going to say Iván Helguera who played in midfield with me at Madrid. We had a great chemistry; we'd train together, we'd eat together. He knew where I'd move on the pitch, I'd know when he was going to push up and try and score. We didn't even need to talk, just a look was enough to know what the other was going to do."
Of course, it's all about opinions in the world of football but I think the majority would concur that Claude's choice is a bit bland.
This is the face we all pulled when we heard Makelele's answer...
Helguera was a decent, steady player but something's seriously wrong for Makelele if his name springs to mind quicker than supreme talents like Ronaldo, Lampard, Henry and Raul.
Hopefully his answer is different should he be put on the spot at some stage in the near future. Come on Claude, get it right next time.
