Christian Pulisic matched a 10-year Lionel Messi Champions League record last night.

The United States international played the full 90 minutes as Chelsea lost 1-0 to Porto in Seville but went through on aggregate following last week's 2-0 win in the first leg.

A constant menace for Porto throughout, Pulisic was named Man of the Match after producing an impressive showing in the quarter final.

His blend of pace and skill was too much for the Portuguese side to handle and they had to resort to stopping him by illegal means and frequently got off without a yellow card.

In total, the former Borussia Dortmund winger was a fouled 11 times in the game - which is the most in the Champions League since Messi was hacked down left, right and centre against Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid.

Along with winning 11 free-kicks, Messi scored twice, including an outrageous solo goal, as Barca progressed to the Champions League semi-final at Wembley Stadium.

Pulisic has really started to perform for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel in recent weeks and skipper Cesar Azpilicueta praised him for the way he played despite the rough treatment he received.

"He was very good; working really hard on getting the ball, dribbling," the Spaniard told Chelsea TV.

"Thus they [Porto] didn't allow you to counter-attack, they made fouls.

"The referee made good decisions to stop them.

"Obviously, we tried to get our rhythm in the game, but sometimes it is difficult."
