Ben Foster has jokingly refused to play in the FA Cup final if he's selected over Heurelho Gomes.

The Brazilian veteran has been a starter for Watford in cup competitions. He's played seven games this season, all in the cup including fives appearances in the FA Cup.

Gomes is set to retire at the end of the season so his last professional game will be the FA Cup final, and Foster has backed his teammate to start against Manchester City.

"I'll absolutely refuse," Watford's No.1 brilliantly said when asked what he'd do if named ahead of Gomes for the Wembley showpiece.

"Heurelho deserves it and should play without a doubt. He has never let this club down and never will. He was fantastic today."

Watford manager Javi Gracia remains hopeful Gomes will reconsider his retirement plans.

"I have listened this week many things about if today will be the last game [for Gomes] but it's not so important for me," he said a few weeks ago.

"The most important is that he is playing well and he is enjoying with the team.

"We will see what happens in the future, there is not a clear decision. We will speak about his future."

Gomes featured for Watford on Sunday, and played the whole match as the 'Hornets' secured a spot opposite Manchester City in ultra dramatic fashion.

They came from two down to beat Wolves to reach the FA Cup final. Gerard Deulofeu bagged a stunning brace with skipper Troy Deeney also getting on the score-sheet.
