Atletico Madrid are planning a big summer of spending when the transfer window opens, if all goes well.

Atleti, who played their final European game at the Vicente Calderon last night in a 2-1 win over Real Madrid that wasn't enough to progress to the final for a second year, are still waiting to find out whether not they will face a transfer ban, with club still awaiting the outcome of an appeal to the Court of Arbitration following a ban from FIFA on new signings after being found of violating regulations of signing under 18 players.

There has been no announcement on Diego Simeone's future at the club as of yet, but Miguel Delaney from The Independent reports that the Argentine has already been looking at new additions in the summer.

And Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is said to be on Simeone's shortlist.

Vardy scored a consolation goal in the second leg of the quarter final clash against Atletico last month and Simeone is said to have been impressed by what he saw from the former Non-League striker, who he feels could fit into his direct, high-octane way of playing.

Attack is the area where Atleti are looking to strengthen the most, and the report says that they are also keeping tabs on Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, PSG's Edinson Cavani and Alvaro Morata.

Simeone is a huge fan of Sanchez and the tenacity that comes with his mercurial talents, while there were suggestions from the Spanish media that Simeone tried to tap up Morata in the Champions League semi-final first leg defeat to Real Madrid over a week ago. The Spaniard has been linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United.

What do you think of Atletico's transfer plans? Could you see Vardy making the move to La Liga?
