Alisson has slammed fellow goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his "unnecessary" challenge on Virgil van Dijk.

Pickford has come under intense scrutiny for injuring Van Dijk during their Premier League clash earlier this month.

As a result, the Liverpool star will miss the entire season with the Everton stopper avoiding any punishment.

And the Brazilian has become the latest Liverpool figure to have a go at Pickford - disagreeing with the way the England international approached the situation.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Every goalkeeper has a different way to play, a different way to move, but on that moment 100 per cent it is not a necessary movement.

"But thinking what I have in my mind when I go for a situation, I go to finish the situation because if I go too soft I know the opponent can score."

Liverpool's No.1 added: "Everyone has their own way to go for the ball.

"I don't agree with that [Pickford's] way, everybody can see that, but it was just an unnecessary moment and movement."

Van Dijk has since undergone successful surgery on his knee with Jurgen Klopp providing a positive update on the club's influential No.4.

"He is a quick healer. He can cope, it's clear. All these things will help," he said.

"I realised long ago that life is a challenge. This is a challenge 100 per cent. We will deal with the situation and make the best of it."
