Adrian Pulls Off Phenomenal One-Handed Save To Deny Dries Mertens

Adrian may well have pulled off the best save you will see in the Champions League this season with his heroics in the 2-0 defeat to Napoli.

Liverpool's second-choice goalkeeper was making his debut in Europe's premier club competition but looked completely at home when he made the most ridiculous one-handed stop to tip Dries Mertens' goal-bound volley over the bar.

The Belgian thought the net was about to bulge but Adrian produced some breathtaking reflexes to keep it out.

The former West Ham goalkeeper, signed on a free this summer having been out of contract, has been extremely reliable in Alisson's absence.

He was the hero in Istanbul when he crucially denied Tammy Abraham in the UEFA Super Cup penalty shoot-out and he proved his worth again tonight.

Mertens did eventually get the better of Adrian in the second half though when he converted from 12 yards after Jose Callejon won a controversial penalty.

Fernando Llorente seized on rare error from Virgil van Dijk to add a second in stoppage time at the San Paolo.
