Two months after being detained by police under the Mental Health Act due to concerns about his welfare, Aaron Lennon has returned to training with Everton.

The former Tottenham winger was found by police officers on the side of a road in Eccles, Salford on 30th April and was later admitted to hospital.

The 30-year-old received treatment for a 'stress-related illness', according to an official statement released by Everton at the time, but two months later is back in pre-season training with the Toffees at Finch Farm.

Lennon's incident has seen more footballers open up about their struggles with mental health issues, including former QPR and Tottenham defender Steven Caulker, who has recently admitted that he thought about committing suicide, saying in an interview with the Guardian, "I've sat here for years hating myself and never understood why I couldn't just be like everyone else. This year was almost the end. I felt for large periods there was no light at the end of the tunnel."

Thankfully, both players seem to be on the path to recovery, with Caulker's previous problems with gambling and alcohol improving - the England international has not placed a bet since December or had a drink since March - while Lennon was warmly greeted by his teammates and staff upon his return to training, today and seemed in high spirits, being seen with a smile on his face as he undertook a series of exercises.

It's great to see Lennon back in training and enjoying himself. If you or anyone you know may be suffering from mental health problems or depression, don't suffer in silence, any longer. Incredible charities such as CALM are there to help.
