Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes Received One Of Loudest Cheers Of The Night After Showboating At Corner Flag

Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes Received One Of Loudest Cheers Of The Night After Showboating At Corner Flag

He was only on the pitch for a few minutes when he pulled off this sublime piece of skill.

Newcastle United's new signing Bruno Guimarães introduced himself to the adoring St James' faithful with a sublime piece of skill, just minutes after coming on as a substitute.

The 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder, who joined Eddie Howe's side from Ligue 1 side Lyon for a reported £35 million last month, was the club's third addition in January following the arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

Guimarães will, of course, need time to adjust to life in the Premier League but saying that, it didn't him long to make an impression in their impressive 3-1 win against Everton on Tuesday night.

Just minutes after coming on in the closing stages against Frank Lampard's side, the Brazil international was hounded down by midfield pair Dele Alli and Allan near the corner flag.

It looked like there was nowhere to go but with a clever backheel pass, he found teammate Joelinton and his side managed to retain possession as they defended their two goal lead.

Unsurprisingly, Guimarães' individual brilliance received one of the loudest cheers of the night. You can see the footage below.

Newcastle fans have every right to be excited about the arrival of Guimarães.

The highly-rated midfielder, who has been capped three times by Brazil, completed the most passes in the opposition half in Ligue 1 this season and is also top of the rankings when is comes to passes completed in the final third.

He was linked with a move elsewhere, with Arsenal reportedly interested in his services, but he opted for the North East.

When asked why he decided to join the Magpies, the ambitious midfielder said he has great belief in Newcastle's long term project.

"They didn’t disguise that the main objective and challenge was remaining in the Premier League this season," he said.

"But in the seasons coming, the objective is to be in the Champions League and eventually to win the Champions League.

"I believe in the project, I believe in everything they spoke to me about."

He added: "We are definitely going to be a club that is going to be a big power in world football. This is a historic club with a great tradition and a beautiful history, I have no doubts about my decision to come to Newcastle.

“Newcastle have presented something really interesting. I was so happy with the trust and faith the directors and president placed in me.

"I am someone who is driven by challenges.”
