Newcastle may be playing their first Champions League campaign in 20 years this season, but that’s not stopped the Geordies from backing their team.

67% of Newcastle fans that have backed a team to win the Champions League this season have put their money on Eddie Howe’s men.

This stat comes from members of Ladbrokes Fanzone, a place where you can receive free bets and offers exclusively for your favourite team.

Their European campaign started promising with a 0-0 draw away at the San Siro against AC Milan and the St James’ Park side then followed this up with a very impressive 4-1 win at home to French giants PSG.

However, since then it has been anything but plain sailing after back-to-back defeats against Borussia Dortmund for the Magpies have left them bottom of their group. However it’s not all doom and gloom, and whilst they are currently bottom of Group F with two games remaining, they’re only three points behind table-toppers Dortmund. With PSG in second on six points and Milan in third on five points, qualification for the knockout rounds is still up for grabs.

In comparison to the 67% of Newcastle fans backing themselves to lift the trophy, only 55% of Man City fans who are betting on who will win the Champions League are backing themselves to win the title for a second consecutive season.

The Geordies may have to make the most of this campaign in Europe though as last season’s form in the league is yet to be replicated, with injuries and the more congested fixture list likely to be playing a part. After a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth in their last outing, the Tyne and Wear side currently sit in seventh, six points behind Tottenham in fourth and five points behind Aston Villa in fifth.

Members of the Fanzone who have been having a gamble on Europe’s top competition are favouring Real Madrid, with 27% of people backing the Spanish giants to lift the trophy for a 15th time. Only 13% of Fanzone members are putting their faith in the Geordies.

The Ladbrokes Fanzone for exclusive boosted odds each week on your favourite team. There’s also free to play games as well as free bets to be won.
