Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal target Matheus Cunha is on the verge of signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Arsenal have been the surprise package of the Premier League season. The Gunners currently sit top of the league, some five points clear of Manchester City in second place.

However, Mikel Arteta has been eager to bolster his attacking options so to maintain the club’s momentum in the second half of the season.

The club have been in negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk while they have also been linked with January moves for a spate of strikers to cover for the injured Gabriel Jesus.

The Gunners had been linked to Atletico Madrid’s Cunha, though transfer-guru Romano has dampened any hopes of the Gunners acquiring the forward.

Cunha to Wolves

Despite Arsenal and Leeds having been linked to Cunha, Romano has claimed the Brazilian is set for a move to Wolves.

The journalist tweeted: “Matheus Cunha to Wolves, here we go! Full verbal agreement reached between clubs with Atléti and also on personal terms. It’s a loan with obligation to buy clause, around €40/50m.

“Medicals being scheduled while all the documents will be prepared in the next days.”

The 23-year-old has struggled for form at Atletico this term and is yet to find the net in 17 appearances.

In turn, the eight-time Brazilian international missed out on a place in the Selecao World Cup squad after a poor start to the season.

Other Arsenal links

Elsewhere Spanish publication Marca claims Arsenal are leading the race to sign Atletico’s Portuguese forward Joao Felix, with the 23-year-old also tipped to leave the Spanish capital in January.

Moreover, the north London side have been strongly linked with a move for Yunus Musah, who impressed for the US at the World Cup in Qatar.
