Frank Lampard confirms Mason Mount to undergo surgery and could miss the rest of the season

This could have a major impact on Jurgen Klopp's transfer plans.

Liverpool's transfer plans have taken a hit following the news that Mason Mount will undergo surgery.

The Chelsea midfielder has been the subject of speculation following reports that he is unhappy with his current wage compared to other players at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have endured a tumultuous campaign in West London and are currently 11th in the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, the arrival of several fresh faces at the club has cast Mount's future into doubt.

Liverpool have emerged as potential suitors, with Jurgen Klopp keen to refresh his ageing midfield this summer.

The Reds are staring down the barrel of a trophy-less season after a painful campaign which has left them in seventh place in the league, some 10 points off the Champions League places.

Mount out for the season

Frank Lampard confirmed that Mount will not play for the rest of the campaign after suffering a pelvic injury, and will undergo surgery.

While the news could have a major impact on whether Liverpool try to sign the 24-year-old.

Lampard also revealed Reece James will be absent for the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury.

“Reece James unavailable. Probably for the season," said Lampard (quotes via The Athletic)

“Mason Mount probably the same. Potential for the last game but probably not.

“Mason has been carrying this pelvic injury for quite a while. He’s been trying but we’re at the stage now where he will have minor surgery and a four-week recovery, and we all know where that gets us to.”

Mount has played 35 times in total this term, but his Chelsea future remains unclear with the England international yet to agree fresh terms, with his current deal due to expire next year.
