Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood 'should be allowed to move forward' and revive his career, a representative of the player has said.

Charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against Greenwood were dropped in February after key witnesses withdrew their involvement in the case and new material came to light during a police investigation.

But the 21-year-old remains suspended by Manchester United, pending the outcome of an ongoing internal investigation into his behaviour.

Greenwood was first arrested at his home in January 2022 after allegations against the footballer were posted on social media.

He was due to stand trial in November before the charges against him were discontinued.

A representative of the player says Greenwood should now be allowed to 'move forward'.

"Mason is 21, he has been cleared and should be allowed the opportunity to rebuild and move forward with his young life," a representative told The Athletic.

Will Greenwood resume his career at Man Utd?

A report published by The Sun in February claimed that United's players are reluctant to see Greenwood return to the squad this season and are worried about it having a negative impact on the team, which has made progress this season under Erik ten Hag.

Meanwhile, The Guardian claimed that United staff are split over whether Greenwood should be allowed to resume his career at Old Trafford.

While a 'substantial proportion of the workforce would be deeply unhappy if Greenwood played for the club again', it is claimed that 'others feel a duty of care towards the player' who denied the charges against him and has not been found guilty of any crime.

The Athletic claim United have rejected offers from Turkish sides for Greenwood while the club's internal investigation continues.

Fenerbahce is believed to be one of the clubs interested in signing the player.

What has Greenwood said?

Greenwood released a short statement after the charges against him were dropped, which made no mention of his football career and plans for the future.

"I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support," read the statement.

"There will be no further comment at this time."

Greenwood has not played for United in over a year, with his last appearance for the club coming against West Ham on January 22, 2022.

In total, he has made 129 appearances for United, scoring 35 times.

He has also won one cap for England, which came in a Nations League match against Iceland in 2020.
