A 'compact passing drill' from Manchester United's latest pre-season training session has got fans talking, with many feeling there is still plenty of work to do ahead of next month's Premier League opener.

Erik ten Hag has chosen a 31-man squad to compete in the club's pre-season tour of Thailand, Australia and Norway.

In the coming weeks, United will come up against Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace, Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa before a final test against La Liga side Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.

The Reds landed in Bankok on Saturday for the first leg of their tour – a so-called 'friendly' against Liverpool on Tuesday – while Erik ten Hag took part in his first pre-season press conference on Monday.

Hours later and the Dutchman got to work by watching over a number of intense training drills, including a 'rondo' – a simple exercise where one team with more players tries to keep possession against a small number of defenders.

Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst posted a 45 second clip of the one-touch rondo in action.

There is, of course, plenty of time for United to improve in such areas but fans were quick to comment on Monday's drill. Some were concerned, while others expressed optimism.

One said: "They can’t string five passes together," while another commented: "This squad had lack of coaching for years and it shows."

A third wrote: "So good to see that the players are struggling. It clearly means it’s something completely new to them. Give it time."

One fan even compared United's effort to the below rondo from Ten Hag's tenure at Ajax.

A number of clips from Monday's training session at the Rajamangala Stadium were posted on Twitter during the afternoon, including an 8 vs 6 attacking drill.

Jadon Sancho also delivered an inch-perfect cross to Marcus Rashford, who headed home in style.
