"We missed him..." - Ten Hag's praises forgotten Manchester United star

Erik ten Hag has suggested Aaron Wan-Bissaka could still have a future at Manchester United after an impressive performance against Burnley.

Wan-Bissaka, 25, kept a clean sheet in Wednesday's 2-0 for United in the Carabao Cup round of 16 match at Old Trafford.

He also played a key role in United’s opening goal, setting up Christian Eriksen with a brilliant assist after stretching to meet Bruno Fernandes' ball over the top.

It was a rare opportunity to impress for Wan-Bissaka, who has missed much of the season through injury.

Prior to the win over Burnley, he had managed just one other appearance under Ten Hag which lasted only four minutes.

It had looked likely that Wan-Bissaka would be sold in January if United could find a replacement for the defender, who joined the Red Devils in a £50m move from Crystal Palace in 2019.

Ten Hag: We've missed Wan-Bissaka

However, Ten Hag has suggested Wan-Bissaka could be part of his plans moving forward after singling out the defender for praise.

"Aaron, we missed him in the first 14 games of the Premier League and we need numbers in the squad but not only numbers, they have to play well and they have to perform," said Ten Hag.

"He had good preparation for the second half of the season so he’s ready to play and he did quite well today."

Former United defender Gary Neville was also quick to praise Wan-Bissaka for his assist against Burnley.

"He is pretty solid defensively, but a lot is expected of a modern full-back," Neville said on Sky Sports.

"We often say he's not good enough with the ball, I agree with that, but that assist was absolutely brilliant."

It remains to be seen whether Wan-Bissaka will still remain at United once the January transfer window has closed.

The Premier League club have been linked with a number of right-backs including Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries, Lyon's Malo Gusto and Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong.

Wan-Bissaka could keep his place in the side for United's next match against Nottingham Forest on December 27, with first-choice right-back Diogo Dalot still an injury doubt.
