"Hugely keen" - Everton desperate to poach Man Utd star after failed summer bid

"Hugely keen" - Everton desperate to poach Man Utd star after failed summer bid

Everton boss Frank Lampard is desperate to sign Manchester United's Luke Shaw, having previously failed with a bid for the England man.

Everton boss Frank Lampard is desperate to sign Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw, having previously failed with a summer bid for the England international, according to reports.

The Man Utd’s left-back’s current contract at Old Trafford expires next summer, though the club have the option to activate a one-year extension on the deal.

While Shaw would reportedly prefer to extend his stay at Man Utd and sign a five-year contract extension, that club are said to be concerned about the 27-year-old’s injury record.

According to footballtransfers.com official talks between Shaw and Man Utd are yet to have started, something which has piqued the interest of the Toffees boss.

Lampard “hugely keen" on Shaw

A fresh report from footballtransfer.com claims that though Man Utd are addressing the right-back position as a priority, the opposite flank could also be “tweaked”.

The publication understands that Luke Shaw had talks with Leicester City and Everton over the summer, and discussions between the parties “remain ongoing”.

While Lampard is “hugely keen” on the England international, Shaw is hoping for a contract extension at Man Utd, a club he’s been at since 2014.

Shaw’s England hopes

Shaw, who netted his first England goal in last year’s Euro 2020 final, will be hoping to be among the 26 selected to make Gareth Southgate’s squad in Qatar.

Southgate announces his World Cup squad tomorrow and Shaw looks like a shoo-in to make the plane.

The Man Utd full-back, who has recaptured form at the perfect time, will likely start the tournament at left-back for the Three Lions, given Ben Chilwell’s untimely hamstring injury.

However, Shaw’s place looked under threat only months ago, when the England man was dropped by Erik ten Hag after Man Utd’s disastrous start to the season.

Shaw was playing second fiddle to summer signing Tyrell Malacia following back-to-back defeats by Brighton and Brentford.

He has since put in a collection of assured performances on the left flank and will be hoping to replicate his rejuvenated form in Qatar.
