Man Utd 'in advanced negotiations' over shock signing that could impact Arsenal's transfer plans

Man Utd 'in advanced negotiations' over shock signing that could impact Arsenal's transfer plans

This could surprise fans.

Manchester United are in advanced negotiations to sign Fulham star Kevin Mbabu in a move which could impact rivals Arsenal.

Mbabu has barely featured for the West London club this season so reports that Erik ten Hag is interested in bringing him to Old Trafford are surprising.

He also only signed for Fulham from German side Wolfsburg last summer so it's odd that they would be willing to let him go so soon.

However, according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, as reported by CaughtOffside, the Red Devils are in advanced negotiations to sign the defender.

The report states that Italian club Monza were considering signing the Swiss, but that a move to United is looking more likely.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that the Red Devils would sanction a departure for right-back Aaron Wan Bissaka if a replacement was signed, something which could confirm their interest.

Fulham signed Mbabu for a reported £6.4m so United wouldn't have to break the bank to get him and could use the funds from a Wan Bissaka sale.

Fulham want Cedric

The Cottagers' interest in Arsenal right-back Cedric Soares could also be another indication that they would be willing to allow Mbabu to move on.

The Gunners and Fulham are continuing to talk over a deal for the 31-year-old who is surplus to requirements, the MailOnline reports.

He's only started one game all season for Arsenal and Marco Silva is keen to strengthen the depth in his squad so that his side can keep up in the race for European places.

Cedric's wage demands could scupper a move though with the Portuguese defender set to demand £65,000 per week.

That's what he is currently paid at the Emirates, but with the chance to get more regular game time at Fulham, they could potentially persuade him to take a cut.

A sale would also give Arsenal more funds for their wage budget so they will be keen to get a deal over the line.
