Romano reveals Man Utd will hold 'concrete talks' with 'spectacular' winger next month

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United will hold 'concrete talks' with Facundo Pellistri over a new contract next month.

Pellistri has had to be patient at Old Trafford, having not made one start for the club since his arrival in 2020.

However, the 21-year-old impressed during United's Europa League 4-1 victory over Real Betis on Thursday.

Pellistri came off the bench and was immediately involved in the action, playing a crucial role in the build-up to Wout Weghorst's goal.

And despite rumours suggesting he will be sent out on loan next season, Erik ten Hag is reportedly considering offering the Uruguay international a fresh contract.

Transfer expert Romano claims that a new deal would include a loan move, and talks have been scheduled for April.

"Understand Manchester United are now considering a new contract proposal to Facundo Pellistri before letting him go on loan next season," tweeted Romano.

"No decision made yet on both sides but concrete talks will take place in April to plan Facundo’s future."

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are planning to send both Pellistri and Anthony Elanga out on loan next season.

The club are said to be reluctant to sell Pellistri so soon into his Red Devils career, viewing a loan move as an opportunity to make a firm decision over his long-term future at the club.

Indeed, United may be deemed foolish to let him leave the club permanently.

Pellistri was dubbed "spectacular" by Uruguay teammate Ronald Araujo, who played alongside the winger at the World Cup in Qatar.

“I think Facundo Pellistri is surprising," the Barcelona star told El Pais' YouTube channel. "Obviously we know the quality that Fede Valverde, Bentancur, Darwin [Nunez] have. But Facundo Pellistri surprised me quite a bit.”

“Especially since he hadn’t been playing. And more because of the level that he gave in the national team, that he was spectacular.

“Besides, we understood each other very well on the right wing. Facundo was the one who surprised me the most, yes.”
