Manchester United 'Considering Move For PSG Striker If Edinson Cavani And Anthony Martial Leave'

Manchester United 'Considering Move For PSG Striker If Edinson Cavani And Anthony Martial Leave'

United are preparing contingency plans for if the pair leave Old Trafford.

Manchester United are considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi if both Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial leave the club, according to reports in France.

Martial is keen to leave United in January in search of more first-team football, with Sevilla currently in talks to sign the France international.

Cavani, meanwhile, is more likely to remain with United this month but is reported to be one of 17 players currently unhappy at Old Trafford.

According to French publication L’Equipe, Icardi is being considered as a potential replacement if both Martial and Cavani leave in January.

Icardi has scored 38 goals in 82 games for PSG since joining from Inter Milan, initially on a one-year loan in 2019 before making the move permanent in 2020.

The Argentina international, 28, has struggled for consistent game time this season but has managed to score five goals in his 20 appearances.

United have not made contact with PSG over the striker but are said to be preparing an approach, if Martial and Cavani move closer to leaving.

According to the report, Juventus have also been linked with a move for Icardi.

The Italian giants are interested in taking the forward on loan, with an option to buy him for £30m at the end of the season.

Icardi hit the headlines earlier this season due his volatile relationship with his wife Wanda Nara.

The pair separated last year after Wanda accused Icardi of cheating on her with Argentine actor and model China Suarez.

However, they have since reconciled amid reports Icardi has signed a contract giving Wanda the rights to all his contracts, current and future, as well as the properties he currently owns until 2050 in an effort to save their marriage.

Despite the reports in France, United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has poured cold water on the idea of making new signings in January.

“The current squad is big enough, with a lot of competition in the squad,” he told Sky Sports earlier this month.

“To speak about future players coming into the club doesn’t make sense at this stage when we have to find out which player is in which position, the best possible solution for every game.

“Right now for me, it doesn’t make sense to think about future players. My full focus is on the current squad and to find for each game the best possible formation and line-up.”
