"Very soon..." - Man Utd expected to sign "dangerous" player in the coming days

Manchester United are expected to wrap up a deal for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo “very soon”, according to a new report.

Manchester United are expected to wrap up a deal for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo “very soon”, according to a new report.

Gakpo, who is thought to be United’s number one transfer target in January, has been in scintillating form for club and country this campaign.

The 23-year-old was one of the Netherlands’ stand-out performers at the World Cup, scoring three goals as Louis van Gaal’s side made it to the quarter-finals in Qatar.

Meanwhile, the forward has been exceptional at club level, having netted 13 goals and registered 17 assists so far this term.

The Telegraph claimed earlier this week that United will bid £43.1million for Gakpo, with the Netherlands star seemingly open to the move.

Indeed, Gakpo has claimed he would be interested in signing for the Premier League giants, admitting: “If Manchester United come I will think about it.”

Gakpo to join United “very soon”

TalkSport transfer guru Alex Crook claimed that Gakpo’s prospective move to United could be concluded very shortly.

The journalist explained: “Manchester United [are] very keen to get this deal done.

“I was told yesterday [Tuesday], actually, that unless something drastic happens, this could well be signed and sealed very soon.”

What would Gakpo’s signing mean?

Gakpo, who was described as "dangerous" by Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner earlier this season, is being signed in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo’s acrimonious departure from the club.

In turn, the Old Trafford club will be hoping he can provide some goal threat upon the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s departure.

However, the Netherlands star’s arrival could cause some selection headaches for ten Hag. Gakpo operates best from the left flank, which is where a resurgent Marcus Rashford has dazzled throughout the season.

Meanwhile, Gakpo’s transfer could further restrict Jadon Sancho’s game time.

Sancho has not featured for United since October 22 and missed the club’s mid-season camp to train away from the squad in the Netherlands with coaches recommended by Erik ten Hag.
