"Practically complete..." - Journalist claims Man Utd star is set to sign new deal until 2028

The deal is expected to be signed in the coming days.

Manchester United have 'practically completed' the renewal of Alejandro Garnacho's contract, according to a new report.

The club have been locked in talks with the 18-year-old and his representatives for a number of months as they attempt to commit one of their brightest prospects to a new deal.

Wages were seen as a key stumbling block in negotiations, whilst the Daily Star claimed last month that United were hoping to sign Garnacho to a staggering eight-year contract at Old Trafford.

The Independent reported that United had submitted a proposal to bump up the player's wages to £20,000-a-week from £7,000-per-week, although it was claimed Garnacho's representatives deemed that figure to be too low given his growing importance and role in the first team squad.

He has been linked with a move to Real Madrid if talks break down, with the winger having previously represented Atletico Madrid at youth level before moving to Old Trafford in 2020.

With two goals and three assists in all competitions this term, the Red Devils are keen to ensure that their star prospect does not move elsewhere. And it appears there has been a significant breakthrough.

Garnacho contract 'practically completed'

But according to Spanish outlet AS, and their reporter Manu Sainz, an agreement has almost been reached between Garnacho and United, with image rights the remaining point of discussion in negotiations. It is reported that he will stay at the club until the summer of 2028 once the contract is finalised.

AS say the agreement is 'practically complete', with the financial terms and contract duration both fully agreed on. The exact financial details are unknown.

In addition, United are said to see Garnacho as the 'image' to help further build the club's profile in South America.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, according to The Telegraph, is said to have been wary about the figures included in Garnacho's new deal and keen to ensure that the contract serves as an incentive to improve his game further.

The Dutchman has been complimentary of the winger on a number of occasions this season, but has often sent Garnacho a clear message.

Speaking after the 2-1 win over Manchester City, where the Madrid-born youngster set up Marcus Rashford's winner, Ten Hag explained (via Manchester Evening News): "[He has improved] a lot. He has a skill that I don't see many players in the Premier League having - he beats players one-on-one.

"But he's learnt in the last months about how to play in a team, how to live, how to do the right things in the week, how to have the right attitude on the training ground and you see how he's acting as a team player, and with his individual skills that can make the difference.

"Also for him, it's to keep going in the process. It's not done. There is a lot to come. There is a lot of room for improvement with him, but he can help, he can contribute on the highest level already and I'm really happy."
