Manchester United legend Lou Macari criticised the club's pursuit of Adrien Rabiot in a brutal live segment on MUTV, and it's going viral. You can watch the incident in full below.

It looks increasingly likely that United will secure a move for Rabiot from Juventus in the coming days after football director John Murtough was pictured in Turin on Friday.

Murtough was in negotiations with Rabiot's mother, Veronique, who is also his agent, over a deal that is reportedly worth an initial £15 million.

The midfielder, who currently earns €113,000-a-week at Juventus, would also like a pay rise if he moves to Old Trafford this summer, according to The Mirror.

It's a deal that has sparked plenty of discussion amongst Manchester United supporters and now, in a brutal on-air rant, club legend Lou Macari has not held back in his assessment of the transfer.

“I’d never really heard of him [Rabiot]," the 72-year-old said.

"32 games last season, no goals. I can’t see them [Rabiot’s qualities]. Qualities you can see in black and white, or in this case, him not scoring goals.

“Football clubs spend millions and millions of pounds to put scouts out there across Europe to keep an eye on players.

“So if you were going to be a Manchester United scout and asked him [about a player], he would be able to give you a real breakdown of them. No-one has made a move for this fella. Why?”

It was reported earlier this week that Ligue 1 side AS Monaco were also interested in bringing Rabiot to the club.

Macari, who played for United between 1973 and 1984, also gave his thoughts on those links.

“Monaco is good for dumping your money, dumping your money in the bank and going on holiday," the Scot added.

“But what has the football team ever done? It means nothing. Why aren’t the rest of the clubs in this country, that have done well in the transfer market, why aren’t Man City or Liverpool interested?

"You always need a good player... I just get a bad feeling about the guy.”

As mentioned earlier, Rabiot is keen on a pay rise if he does make the move. In fact, the French midfielder is reportedly demanding wages of up to €10 million-per-year - which works out at just less than €200,000-per-week.

Rabiot penned a four-year deal with Juventus back in 2019 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain on a free and earns roughly €7 million a year.

The 27-year-old is seen as an upgrade in comparison to their current options in midfield. Scott McTominay struggled in their opening day defeat against Brighton, while Fred was brought off after half-time.
