Erik ten Hag could see five Manchester United players leave in the January transfer window, as the Dutchman looks to rejuvenate his squad.

Despite a torrid start to the current campaign, in which United suffered bruising defeats to Brighton and Brentford, ten Hag’s efforts at United are slowly bearing fruit.

With the club now competing with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur to finish in a Champions League spot, ten Hag is likely to add to his squad in January.

The Old Trafford club have been tipped to bring in a number of players next month to redress the gap in the squad left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in particular.

While United have been linked to Cody Gakpo and Marcus Thuram, several players are also expected to leave the club.

Here are five players likely to depart Old Trafford before the start of February.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was bought for £45million from Crystal Palace in 2019, has been linked with a return to the south London club, while West Ham are also said to be interested.

The full-back was a regular at Old Trafford but lost his place to Diogo Dalot at the end of the last term. This season the 25-year-old has managed just four minutes of first-team football and is likely to move on to pastures new in January.

Facundo Pellistri

Facundo Pellistri is in the strange position of being a World Cup starter for Uruguay but completely ignored at United. The 20-year-old has made zero first-team appearances since his £9million move from Penarol in October 2020.

Having spent time on loan at Alaves on two occasions since arriving in England, it is likely he will leave United on a temporary basis once more in January.

Donny van de Beek

Donny van de Beek has failed to make an impact in England, having signed for United from Ajax two years ago for £40million.

After a failed loan spell at Everton, ten Hag’s arrival at United renewed hope that van de Beek could come good at Old Trafford. However, having struggled to impress this term United will look to sell the star.

Teden Mengi

Having previously impressed on loan at Birmingham City and Derby County, Teden Mengi was reportedly set to leave United on a temporary basis again in January.

While the centre-back sustained an injury against Real Betis in a friendly earlier this month, the setback isn’t thought to be as serious as first feared and may not prevent Mengi from making a January move.

Di’Shon Bernard

Di’Shon Bernard spent last term on loan at Hull City, helping the Tigers retain their Championship status, having previously also had a spell at Salford City.

Having made his senior debut in 2019 Bernard is in desperate need of first-team football this term and is expected to move to the Championship or possibly abroad.
