Man Utd, Arsenal suffer major transfer blow as key target signs new contract

Man Utd, Arsenal suffer major transfer blow as key target signs new contract

Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool target Youssoufa Moukoko is set to sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal transfer target Youssoufa Moukoko has signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund.

United have tracked the 18-year-old forward for a significant amount of time, according to Ben Jacobs, and were monitoring talks over a new deal with Dortmund.

Moukoko's current contract expires this summer, and the German club were keen to retain one of their top young assets to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer.

And the forward, who became Germany's youngest-ever player at a World Cup in November, had been reportedly attracting the attention of a number of Europe's top clubs, including Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Chances of a potential move away were seemingly strengthened as a result of comments made by his agent last month, who told Sky Germany (quotes via Liverpool Echo): "I can confirm that we are not about to conclude a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund.

"I can also assure you that the numbers that are circulating are simply not correct and Yousouffa was never offered that much. But we are still in contact with Dortmund and will see what the next few days bring."

Now, the contact has ended with a positive conclusion for the German club.

Moukoko stays at Dortmund

Fabrizio Romano claimed on Saturday that Moukoko was set sign a new contract at Dortmund - and it could be done as soon as Saturday.

He tweeted: "Understand Youssoufa Moukoko will sign new deal with Borussia Dortmund today. It's done deal, here we go.

"Moukoko will extend his contract until June 2026. Top talent had many bids but decided to stay despite fake news on salary, as Moukoko loves BVB. Official soon."

The confirmation was made on Saturday afternoon, with Moukoko signing a new deal that will last until the summer of 2026.

The forward said (quotes via The Athletic): "It's no secret that I feel good at BVB. I played in the youth teams, took my first steps in professional football here, and now I'm ready to take the next step in my development together with the club."

As he is out of contract in the summer, the striker could have signed a pre-contract agreement with another European club from January 1.

But he will instead look to add to his six goals and three assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances this season without the pressure surrounding his future - and United, Liverpool and Arsenal will have to explore other striker targets.
