Man United told fee for forward who could replace Ronaldo in January

Man United told fee for forward who could replace Ronaldo in January

Manchester United have been told the fee they would have to pay to bring in Chile’s Ben Brereton Díaz as a Cristiano Ronaldo replacement.

Manchester United have been told the fee they would have to pay to bring in Chile’s Ben Brereton Díaz, according to a fresh report.

The Red Devils have had a revival of sorts in recent months. Before Sunday’s tired display against Aston Villa, where they lost 3-1, Erik ten Hag’s side had been on a nine-game unbeaten run.

A cause of concern however has been the striker position.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s powers have waned - he looks slower and less clinical. The 37-year-old has played 16 times this term, including 10 starts, but has scored just three goals.

Meanwhile Martial has endured a series of injuries throughout the season, that have restricted his playtime.

The Frenchman, who found the net last night in a 4-2 revenge victory against the Villans in the Carabao Cup, has scored four goals this season in just six appearances.

Ten Hag favours a mobile forward, and given Martial’s torrid luck with injuries, the Man Utd boss may dip into the market in January.

Brereton Díaz the answer?

Man Utd have been linked with a range of strikers, both young and old, and of varying degrees of quality. Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix has been touted, as has PSV’s Cody Gakpo.

Former Stoke City forward Eric Choupo-Moting, who’s found form of late at Bayern Munich, has also been linked.

Another left-field name that has entered the frame is Blackburn and Chile forward Brereton Díaz, who has scored nine Championship goals this term, having netted 22 times last season.

According to 90min, Brereton Díaz’s displays have alerted Man Utd, who have sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in recent weeks.

A deal in excess of £10 million is thought to be enough to persuade Blackburn to sell, even if the transfer would affect their promotion bid.

Brereton Díaz’s contract ends next summer, and there is a score of clubs said to be challenging Ten Hag’s side for his signature.

In England Tottenham, West Ham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Wolves are also in the running, while on the continent the likes of Sevilla, Ajax, Union Berlin, Atalanta, Sassuolo and Salernitana are thought to have registered an interest.
