Manchester United have announced that a significant change to the Stretford End stand of Old Trafford will be implemented in 2024.

United have called Old Trafford their home since 1910, and it had a capacity of 80,000 when opened.

The ground, as with many others around at the time, has changed significantly over the years, but still has a similar capacity of 74,310.

Formerly one of the ground's main standing areas, the terracing of the Stretford End was demolished in 1992 following recommendations set out by the Taylor Report. In 2000, a second tier of seating, plus new executive boxes, were added. The players' tunnel, meanwhile, is situated towards the corner of the stand, and the Stretford End has witnessed some of the club's most memorable moments.

But after calls from fans, United have opted to make a significant adjustment to one particular area of the stand, which will be completed during the year of 2024.

Man Utd announce Old Trafford change

In a club statement on their official website, United confirmed they will be removing the executive box area of the Stretford End and replacing it with general seating.

Explaining the decision, the club wrote: "Manchester United is to replace the executive seating era in the Stretford End with general admission season tickets at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, following constructive consultation with the club's Fans' Advisory Board.

"The Stretford End has, for decades, been the matchday home of some of Manchester United's most passionate supporters, while also being synonymous with many of the most iconic goals in the history of Old Trafford.

"Following requests from fans, the club worked with its Fans' Advisory Board to review the presence of executive seating within the Stretford End, in support of successful ongoing efforts to enhance the Old Trafford atmosphere.

"It has now been agreed that all of the seating in the Stretford End will be returned to general admission for the start of the 2024/25 season."
