Kylian Mbappe responds to Man Utd star's post after England World Cup exit

Kylian Mbappe was one of the many who responded to an Instagram post put out by Marcus Rashford following England's exit from the World Cup on Saturday.

The Three Lions suffered an agonising 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mbappe's France in the quarter-finals, despite arguably being the stronger side.

Aurelien Tchouameni opened the scoring for France with a long-range drive, before Harry Kane equalised from the penalty spot early on in the second half.

Olivier Giroud scored what proved to be the decisive goal on 78 minutes, before Kane hit a second penalty over the bar.

It was a tough result to take for Gareth Southgate's side, who did little wrong in the 90 minutes and saw strong performances from the likes of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Kane himself.

But it was not to be in the end, with the result leaving England players and fans devastated.

Rashford was England's joint top scorer in Qatar alongside Saka, netting on three occasions.

It was an excellent tournament for the 25-year-old, who was one of the Three Lions' top stars when on the pitch.

He scored a superb long-range free kick against Wales in the group stage, and was desperately unlucky not to repeat the feat with the last kick of the game on Saturday as his effort hit the top of the net.

The Manchester United star had little time to influence the game otherwise, however, featuring as a substitute from the 85th minute.

Taking to Instagram after the match, he said: "The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster of emotions, each and every one of our team gave everything we had to be ready for what was thrown at us, we got close, but not close enough.

"I'll make a promise that we will come again! Thank you for the unconditional support we have received throughout the tournament, it hasn't gone unnoticed."

And after a tough battle on the pitch, where Mbappe once again showed his class, he also showed his class off the pitch as well.

The France star left Rashford a love heart emoji on his post - a sign of the mutual respect between both players after a gruelling World Cup quarter final.

Rashford later responded by posting: "Good luck with the rest of the tournament brother! Go smash it king."
