Man Utd receive another major injury boost as Alejandro Garnacho spotted in training

Another Man Utd star is nearing a return.

Manchester United have received a fresh injury boost with wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho nearing a return from an ankle problem.

Garnacho suffered the injury in the closing stages of United's 0-0 draw with Southampton last month following a strong tackle from Saints defender Kyle Walker-Peters late on in the game.

The winger limped off the field and had to be substituted, and was pictured on crutches outside the stadium after the match.

As a result, Garnacho was forced to withdraw from the Argentina senior squad, having been selected for the first time by manager Lionel Scaloni.

United boss Erik ten Hag admitted his disappointment at the 18-year-old's injury, but did confirm that he would be back before the end of the season.

He explained (quotes via Sky Sports): "Of course it's difficult. He makes great progression and he was selected by the national team. It was a big moment for him, and he's in a really good development and you don't want to disturb that process.

"Now we have to step away but he will be back for the end of the season."

Garnacho now looks to be edging closer to a return to action.

As reported by the Daily Express, Garnacho has been pictured back in training following his ankle ligament injury, and has been working alongside first team coach Steve McClaren.

While it appears unlikely that the Argentinian will feature in Saturday's Premier League clash against Everton, he could play a part in the first leg of his side's Europa League quarter-final clash against Sevilla on Thursday if he is fully fit.

It is the second injury boost that United have received this week, with Christian Eriksen also closing in on a comeback.

He has been out since January after suffering an ankle injury during an FA Cup fourth round tie against Reading, and was initially expected to be out until at least the end of April.

But the Denmark international is now back in team training, and will hope to play a key part in United's run-in. Ten Hag has since confirmed that the midfielder is in contention to face Everton.
