Harry Kane passes Manchester United audition in front of Erik ten Hag with sensational moment

Harry Kane proved his value in front of Man Utd and Erik ten Hag.

Harry Kane proved once again why he would make an ideal fit for Manchester United - directly in front of Erik ten Hag.

The 29-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer which, if completed, would surely lead to Kane breaking Alan Shearer's record as the Premier League's all-time record goalscorer.

That is not to say the striker would not do so at Spurs, but with hopes of Champions League qualification now all but over despite the 2-2 draw, Kane has to make a major decision over his future this summer.

He will be under contract at Tottenham next season, but his current deal only takes him until the end of that campaign. If he does not agree to new terms, he will be a free agent beginning in July 2024.

Kane did not find the net against his potential future employers on Thursday evening - but what he did do was show Ten Hag exactly how he would change and reshape United's attack towards a potential title charge next season.

Kane proves he is the ideal Man Utd signing

Spurs went into half-time at 2-0 down and with United on top in the game.

But Kane, the Tottenham captain on the night due to club skipper Hugo Lloris' injury, drove his team on. He did the same against Newcastle, scything through the Magpies defence to score a superb solo goal into the bottom corner.

With Eddie Howe's side 5-0 up before his strike, the goal was never likely to make any difference to the result. But that was Kane at his powerful best.

Against United, he showed his all-round attributes. His hold-up play was excellent, and he caused central defenders Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw plenty of problems.

One such example was in the 74th minute, when he drew a foul from Lindelof 40 yards out. Then, from the subsequent free kick, Kane arrived at the back post to fire an effort across goal. He will have been devastated that no Spurs player could get on the end of it.

In another move, the Spurs number 10 chipped a cross to Richarlison, who also couldn't make full contact with his header.

Kane dropped deep on a number of occasions, as is almost customary for England's record goalscorer. There was also his passing range. It is hard to find a centre forward of Kane's style that can find his team-mates so regularly and bring others into play, but the 29-year-old does it repeatedly.

And it was Kane picking the ball up in a deep area that led to Spurs' equaliser - perhaps the biggest piece of quality in the game. He drove forward, before squaring the ball perfectly to Son Heung-min, who made no mistake from close range to level the scores at 2-2.

There was to be no goal for Kane in the end, but he proved that he is about far more than just putting the ball in the net.

In the process, he showed why United must splash out the reported £100 million plus that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is demanding to sell his star asset.
