Man Utd have £80 million bid for Antony rejected and they've identified a new target

With two weeks of the window remaining, United are desperate.

Manchester United have had an €80 million offer for Ajax winger Antony rejected.

Erik ten Hag is desperate to add reinforcements to his squad with just two weeks remaining of the transfer window.

It was reported earlier this summer that ten Hag was keen to reunite with Antony, who he signed for Ajax from Sao Paulo in 2020.

The Athletic claim that United submitted a fresh offer for the 22-year-old on Wednesday which was swiftly turned down.

Old Trafford officials are not optimistic about getting a deal for Antony, who has scored 18 goals in 57 appearances in Amsterdam, over the line.

Antony is a full Brazil international and won the Eredivise in 2021 and 2022.

United are keen to recruit in forward areas with their only senior wingers being Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga.

Amad Diallo, Facundo Pellistri and Alejandro Garnacho are options, but too raw to depend upon for a full campaign at this time.

An alternative option is PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo. United first registered interest earlier this month and ten Hag likes the player.

Gakpo recently signed a contract to keep him at the Philips Stadium until 2026 but PSV will listen to suitable offers if made.

The Dutch outfit are currently in the Champions League play-offs and drew 2-2 with Rangers in their first leg on Tuesday evening.

It's unknown if Champions League qualification will have an impact on Gakpo's future.

United's priority at the moment is central midfield and they continue to work on a deal for Real Madrid's Casemiro.

The 30-year-old is keen for a new challenge after nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu and would like a move to the Premier League.

It's believed Casemiro has been offered a four-year deal with a view to a fifth, but a move is unlikely to be completed in time for him to be available for Monday's clash with Liverpool.

United have added Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez this summer but are ready to spend as soon as possible.

They're currently bottom of the Premier League after losing their first two games to Brighton and Brentford.
