Alejandro Garnacho scores stunning goal as Man United advance in the FA Cup

Manchester United are through to the quarter finals of the FA Cup

Manchester United are through to the FA Cup quarter-finals as Alejandro Garnacho scored a stunning late goal against West Ham United.

After tasting glory in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United last Sunday, United’s focus was swiftly shifted to the FA Cup.

Against West Ham, the Red Devils endured a tough first half where they failed to create any meaningful chances.

In the second half, West Ham took a controversial shock lead after Said Benrahma rattled the ball into the net, however, the replays seemed to show the ball was out of play in the build-up. But VAR gave the goal.

Nayef Aguerd’s own goal gave United a lifeline, and with the match ticking towards a draw, it was Garnacho who stepped up with the goods in the closing stages.

A stunning right-footed finish into the bottom corner sent Old Trafford into pandemonium.

Fans were quick to react to the youngster’s goal.

One said: “Some strike from the boy Garnacho!!”

Another commented: “What a finish by Garnacho that was!! Wow!!”

Fred sealed the win after his late strike made it 3-1 to the Old Trafford club as United marched onto the last eight of the competition.

BBC Sports commentator Pat Nevin praised Erik ten Hag for his decision-making.

He said: “It goes down as a great cup tie. West Ham played fantastically at the start of the second half but the question was could they keep up the pressure and the tempo. The answer was 100 per cent no.

“Erik ten Hag made the right decisions bringing on Casemiro and Rashford and they forced West Ham back.”

United are still in the three remaining competitions as they look to mount a surprise charge towards the unprecedented quadruple.

They are currently 11 points behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League table with a game in hand, whilst they face Spanish La Liga side Real Betis in the last 16 of the Europa League.
