Manchester United’s deal to bring Wout Weghorst will reportedly be done today as the Netherlands striker is ready to force his way to Old Trafford.

Since Cristiano Ronaldo’s abrupt departure last month, United have been actively looking to add to their attacking options in the window transfer window.

Manager Erik ten Hag has now identified the 30-year-old as his preferred target, Weghorst is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas from Championship club Burnley.

There have been reports that Weghorst had an exit clause in his contract, which Besiktas strongly denied, their statement read: “After the match of our Football A Team against Kasımpasa in the Super League, there was a need to make a statement due to speculative news in the media about our football player Wout Weghorst.

“The claim that there is an exit clause in our football player's contract, stating that his contract can be terminated with a compensation of €2.5million in case of an offer from the Premier League, is fictitious.”

However, according to Turkish journalist Gokhan Dinc, Weghorst is ready to pay the compensation fee himself if Besiktas refuse to let him go.

Furthermore, Dinc added that it is expected Besiktas will announce Weghorst’s departure today but it is unsure whether he paid his own way out or an agreement has been reached with Burnley and United.

The Daily Express has reported that Besiktas listed two conditions in order to let Weghorst go. Firstly, they want to secure a compensation fee for cancelling the Dutchman’s contract early.

In addition, Besiktas want to ensure they have a replacement lined up before letting Weghorst go so that they don’t end up with a lack of options upfront.

Besiktas has been linked with Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar, who is expected to leave Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr after the arrival of Ronaldo.

United are back in action tonight as they take on Charlton in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
