Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a record-breaking bid to sign Benfica star Goncalo Ramos this summer as they look to address the severe deficiency up front within the squad.

United have relied on the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony Martial and Wout Weghorst throughout the current season but are in desperate need of reinforcements if they are to go head-to-head with powerhouses such as Manchester City and Arsenal next season, with the forward position now becoming a priority ahead of the transfer window.

Erik ten Hag's side currently find themselves occupying the final Champions League spot in the Premier League but will need significant additions in the market if they are to push on in their efforts to challenge for the title in the near future.

According to The Mirror, Erik ten Hag has identified Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos as a potential option to fill the void up front within the squad, after the striker captured the attention of the footballing world during the 2022 Qatar World Cup with his performances for Portugal.

A record-breaking deal between £70-100million will now be discussed by the two clubs in the coming months, as United look to secure the services of the 21-year-old for next season.

If completed, the deal would eclipse the current club record transfer of midfielder Paul Pogba after the Frenchman was brought back to Old Trafford from Juventus in a deal worth £89.3million in 2016.

Elsewhere, United also have Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane as one of their top targets but will face stiff competition from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who is braced for tough negotiations with any Manchester clubs after vowing to never sell to their rivals following the departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

United are still awaiting clarity of any proposed takeover of the club before pushing on with their summer transfer plans amid doubts on how much they will have to spend in the transfer window.
