David De Gea howler gifts Sevilla a third goal against Man United

Manchester United are taking on Sevilla in the Europa League

David de Gea made an awful blunder to gift Sevilla a third goal against Manchester United in the Europa League.

After last week’s dramatic first-leg tie at Old Trafford which ended 2-2, United were hoping to seal a place in the semi-final of the Europa League in Seville.

However, they made an awful start inside a hostile Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

De Gea played a risky pass towards captain Harry Maguire on the edge of the United penalty area.

Sevilla forward Erik Lamela was quickly on the scene and forced a mistake from Maguire.

The ball then fell perfectly into the path of striker Youssef En Nesyri, who cooly slotted the ball hard and low into the back of De Gea’s net.

United went in search of the equaliser but was presented with a stubborn Sevilla backline who refused to budge.

In the second half, United again made a poor start as Sevilla doubled their lead on the night.

Loic Bade managed to flick the ball looping over De Gea into the back of the net after a corner by Ivan Rakitic.

With 81 minutes on the clock, De Gea made another awful error as his attempt to clear a long ball went horribly wrong.

Instead of clearing, De Gea only managed to play the ball into the path of En Neyri, who slotted the ball into the empty net.

Disgruntled United fans reacted on social media.

One said: “If Ten Hag renews De Gea’s contract then I’m Ten Hag Out I’m sorry.”

Another tweeted: “Ten Hag called De Gea a complete keeper btw.”

A third fan added: “De Gea having a cracking game tonight.”

Someone else wrote: “What was that attempt to control the ball by De Gea?”

Whilst a fifth commented: “De Gea usually makes it difficult to defend him.”

With Sevilla leading 3-0 on the night, it looks like United’s Europa League journey will end at the quarter final stage.
