Casemiro reminded everyone that he is still the best defensive midfielder in the world after he produced a stunning display against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

Manchester United made a promising return to Premier League football as goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred secured a comfortable 3-0 win over a poor Forest side.

Although there were many good individual displays, Casemiro stood out in particular as he produced a commanding, man-of-the-match performance in midfield.

Best Moment:

Throughout the match, the Brazilian was everywhere as he made crucial interceptions for his side. His best moment came in the 86th minute as he showed great anticipation to cut out a pass, before playing an exquisite pass for Fred to score.

A brilliant assist to cap off a stunning performance.

Player Rating: 9/10

Casemiro deserved his high rating and man of the match award after such a dominant display. He won all his aerial duels while making five tackles, three clearances and two interceptions.

The 30-year-old also had two shots on goal, created three chances and made 28 final third passes. It was a vintage performance from the former Real Madrid man.

What was said about his performance:

Unsurprisingly, many people were praising Casemiro. The Times’ chief football writer, Henry Winter tweeted: “Casemiro senses danger from far off. He reads, intercepts, releases. He's the calm controller, organising, inspiring. He's only 30, got a good 2-3 years left at elite level. Doesn't rely on pace, relies on experience, intelligence and sensing danger early.”

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand simply wrote: “Love this guy @Casemiro.”

One United fan said: “Forget Rodri, Partey or Kante, Casemiro is still the best CDM in the world and that is not even up for debate.”

Overall Verdict:

When United signed him in the summer, many rival fans felt it was a waste of money considering his age and questioned whether Casemiro can adapt to the Premier League.

However, the Brazilian has shown that he has no problem with English football and has proved his doubters wrong.

Casemiro is still the best in the world in his position.
