"Quality player" - Man United star tipped to score 250 goals for the Red Devils

Owen Hargreaves is backing one Man United star.

Former Man United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has backed Marcus Rashford to score 250 goals during his Red Devils career.

Rashford has been at United throughout his senior career, having come through the club's youth academy.

He made his senior debut in 2016, a Europa League round of 32 tie against FC Midtjylland, scoring twice in that fixture.

Rashford was then included in Roy Hodgson's England squad for Euro 2016, before going on to play an important role at club level under Jose Mourinho.

Then, in 2019/20, he netted 17 Premier League goals - the highest single season tally of his career.

And after a difficult campaign last season, which was blighted by a shoulder injury that caused him to miss pre-season following Euro 2020 and saw Rashford score just five goals in 32 games in all competitions, he is now back to top form.

Under Erik ten Hag, the 24-year-old has been utilised more often as a centre forward. He won the Premier League Player of the Month award for September, and has six goals in 14 games in all competitions.

Rashford was on the scoresheet again during United's 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday night. He netted a superb header from 12 yards to put the hosts 2-0 up.

And, after the game, one-time Champions League winner Hargreaves gave the forward a glowing acclamation.

Owen Hargreaves on Rashford

Speaking on BT Sport after United's latest win (quotes via United in Focus), Hargreaves said: "I was blown away by the numbers there, 99 goals at 24. It's amazing. By the time he's finished, [Rashford] could have 250 goals for United.

"He's just a quality player. Everything's there. I love his talent, I really do.

"He just needs to be a little more consistent, and the goals will fly in for him."

Meanwhile, prior to the Manchester derby in September, Ten Hag revealed what he told Rashford when he met him for the first time as United's new boss.

He told Sky Sports (quotes via Manchester Evening News): "From day one, I was so excited to work with him.

"I saw his status, and I knew already the impact he could have, and his potential."

He later added: "I told him on day one - I want to see you smiling every day. We said that we would prepare the training sessions, and then it's up to you to love the training and give you best, because when you feel pressure in training and enjoy it, you will give your best.

"If you give your best, you will improve and you will perform on the pitch. Then life is easy, and your performance will go up."
