Manchester United fans have a theory behind why they'll win the FA Cup after the injury to Anthony Martial.

The United No.9 has been ruled out of the final against rivals Manchester City at Wembley with a hamstring injury.

Martial suffered the muscle problem during the final day win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday and was pictured holding his hamstring during Erik ten Hag's speech after a 23-minute cameo.

The 27-year-old has missed 27 games in the 2022/23 season through injury and United confirmed on their official website that Martial will not be available for selection for the showpiece.

It could mean top goalscorer and player of the year Marcus Rashford leads the line with Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho supporting.

But plenty of United supporters reckon the injury news is a blessing disguise and will galvanise loanee Wout Weghorst, who is "playing for a contract".

One wrote: "Playing for a contract Weghorst is about to be unleashed upon City I’m actually scared for the world not just Manchester City."

A second said: "Watching him cook City would be crazy."

A third tweeted: "Legacy game incoming be ready."

A fourth weighed in: "Wout winner in Fergie time we will be there no matter what."

Another user predicted: "He's gonna score the winning goal."

A sixth agreed: "Weghorst will score the winning goal against City at the Fa cup final. Written in the stars".

A final user claimed: "If he wins us the final with a goal he deserves a contract fr."

Weghorst signed on loan from Burnley in January and failed to find the net in the Premier League in 17 games.

He notched twice in 30 games in all competitions and won his first ever career trophy by helping United win the Carabao Cup against Newcastle in February.

The giant Dutchman assisted the second goal scored by Marcus Rashford as United ended a five-year trophy.

It has been reported that United will not purchase Weghorst permanently, nor will they sign up fellow loanee Marcel Sabitzer in the summer.
