Manchester United fans reckon Hannibal Mejbri showed more fight in his cameo appearance against Liverpool than the whole team combined.

Mejbri smashed into Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita after being introduced in the 84th minute of Tuesday's Premier League clash at Anfield.

He replaced Anthony Elanga and made an instant impression, showing energy and passion in the middle of the park.

The 19-year-old picked up a caution for his challenge on Henderson and risked a second booking when he clattered Keita moments later.

Gary Neville loved what he saw from the Tunisian international and was 'proud' of his effort, with Man United fans hailing his brief showing.

"To be fair, at least the kid’s showing a bit of something," said Neville on commentary. "Honestly, it takes a young kid to come on and show the rest of them how to sprint to the ball and put a challenge in.

"I’m actually proud of him. Maybe he doesn’t like the idea of Liverpool players passing round him. I wish the rest of them were the same."

Mejbri was making just his second appearance for Man United having made his league debut for the club against Wolves on the final day of last season.

Neville was able to draw one positive from an otherwise crushing defeat for his old club, with Liverpool running out 4-0 winners.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring, with Mohamed Salah doubling Liverpool's advantage.

Sadio Mane and Salah bagged their side's third and fourth in the second half to move to the top of the league.
