The Argentine is a firm fans’ favourite.

Lisandro Martinez is fast becoming a firm fans favourite at Manchester United after his latest social media post after his side’s clash against Chelsea on Saturday.

In what was a cagey affair, the contest came alive in the final minutes of the match. Chelsea went ahead courtesy of a Jorginho penalty in the 87th minute, with just minutes remaining, it looked like Graham Potter's side were going to hold on for all three points, but United had other ideas.

An expertly executed header from summer signing Casemiro salvaged a point for Erik ten Hag’s side in the fourth minute of added time. A gut-wrenching blow for Chelsea right at the death.

Casemiro’s goal led to a huge eruption of emotions among the travelling fans at Stamford Bridge. One of the pictures taken during the celebration showed a passionate Martinez celebrating and hugging a fan in the crowd.

Hours after the final whistle, Martinez took to social media to express his delight towards the support. He posted two pictures of him and a fan, with a caption that read: “Mate I don’t know you but we’re in this together…fighting until the end!!!!!”

The fan in the pictures, Samy, replied: “Love you mate.”

Since his summer move from Ajax, Martinez has been winning over fans’ hearts with his passionate personality whilst also showing his qualities on the pitch.

Martinez himself was solid at the back during United’s match against the Blues. He made seven clearances, won five out of six tackles and had a passing success rate of 88%. A commanding performance at the heart of United’s defence.

After the match, manager Ten Hag praised his side’s fighting spirit.

The Dutchman said: “That’s why I’m happy in this stage of the season with this point. When you are capable to fight back like we did.

“We did it last week against Omonia to get the win, we did it against Chelsea after you are down, you give resilience.

“You show resilience and that is a really big theme for big teams to have in your capabilities. And also therefore that is what Casemiro, among others, is bringing into the squad and into this team.”
