Previous player sales mean Man City have the 'biggest budget' in the history of football

City may have signed Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Kalvin Phillips last summer but they made money.

The Premier League and Europe beware, Manchester City reportedly have the biggest transfer budget in the history of football this summer.

If you've missed it, I've been doing a mini-series this week of what each of the 'Big Six' need to do with their summers in order to reach their goals next season.

I've not reached City just yet but it's basically along the lines of 'Pep Guardiola might as well just send out his team and say 'do that again.''

There isn't much the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League winners can do to improve on a season of near perfection.

Despite the fact there isn't much more Guardiola can do with his team to make it better you know that the former Barcelona boss will still manage it.

For one they have been heavily linked with Declan Rice in the last day or so, as they attempt to jump ahead of Arsenal to sign the West Ham United midfielder.

The England star won't come cheap for whoever signs him with the Europa Conference League winners having already rejected an £80 million bid.

However that won't matter in the slightest to City, with the Telegraph reporting that the Abu Dhabi owned team have the highest budget in the history of football to work with.

The revenue base that City have built up in recent years thanks to their success on the pitch and in selling players means they can spend a hell of a lot without getting close to breaking FFP rules.

The report explains that the club made £193 million in sales last summer, with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus making them decent money.

That means that even with signing Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips and others in the last year they still made a net profit of £63 million.

Selling stars and making money to add to their transfer coffers isn't expected to end this summer either, with Joao Cancelo, Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Kyle Walker all potentially leaving the Etihad Stadium.

If they can offload all of those player, plus potentially Ilkay Gundogan, then Guardiola has the potential to refresh his squad without actually eating into their profit on sales.

That will no doubt scare any of their domestic rivals wanting to stop them becoming the first English team to win four titles in-a-row and any European side hoping to be crowned Champions League winners.
