Luis Enrique has hilariously admitted that Ferran Torres might have to start for Spain at the World Cup due to the Barcelona star dating his daughter, Sira Martinez.

Torres and Enrique’s daughter officially announced their relationship back in January after the Spaniard completed his transfer from Manchester City to Barcelona.

The 22-year-old winger has thrived under Barcelona manager Xavi and has scored 12 times and assisted seven times in 44 appearances at the Camp Nou.

Torres, who has scored five times in 18 appearances for Barcelona this season, punched his ticket into Enrique’s 26-man Spain squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

Spain will kick off their Group E opener on Wednesday against Costa Rica at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Costa Rica, Enrique was asked which player in the Spain squad might be the most similar to him.

And the Spain boss pointed his finger at former City star Torres, saying his daughter might “chop off my head” if he didn’t pick her boyfriend.

“That’s very easy: it’s Mr Ferran Torres. Otherwise, my daughter will come after me and chop off my head,” Enrique said.

Enrique insisted that he has a healthy relationship with Torres and there was no pressure on him, despite the fact that the Spain international is dating his daughter.

When asked about any pressure on Torres to play under him, Enrique responded: “Not at all.

“I think the coach and I, we know how to differentiate between when it’s family and when we are manager and player.

“I think we have to get on with it in a natural way, just that and we're getting along fine.”

Torres has spoken fondly of Enrique in the past and claimed that the former Barcelona manager was like a “father” to him.

“I only have words of thanks. I consider him my father, he is like our father,” he said.

“Since I have come to the national team, he has welcomed me in a spectacular way, he has given me all his confidence.

“This is what any player would want.”
