It's fair to say that Charlton Athletic's Love Island themed transfer announcement has divided fans online.

The League One club pulled out all the stops on social media to unveil the signing of Mandela Egbo.

Charlton took to Twitter to share their Love Island inspired video that shows Egbo announcing he's received a text message.

The 24-year-old reads out the message from Charlton boss Ben Garner, which reads: "Need a right-back. Fancy it? #DoneDeal #RightBackInBusiness."

Egbo replies to the message, saying: "Why not?!" The Love Island theme tune plays over the video.

Charlton's announcement of Egbo split fans online - some loved it, but others also didn't like the 'corny' idea.

One tweeted: "That is horrendous."

A second wrote: "Fair play actually a decent announcement video."

A third added: "This is so funny."

Another commented: "This is very, very tragic."

Love Island has gripped parts of the nation, with Charlton jumping on the popularity of the ITV 2 show to announce their latest signing.

Egbo, meanwhile, spent the second half of last season at Swindon Town.

He's penned a two-year deal at The Valley ahead of the 2022/23 season.
