Club Chief Gives Update On Major Liverpool And Arsenal Transfer Target

Bayern Munich Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidžić says he hopes Serge Gnabry will stay at the club amid interest from Liverpool and Arsenal

Bayern Munich Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidžić has spoken about the future of Liverpool and Arsenal target Serge Gnabry.

Gnabry has a year left on his contract after four successful seasons in Bavaria, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2020 and four Bundesliga titles.

Speaking to SkyDe about the situation, Salihamidžić said: "We really want to keep him. I hope that he chooses Bayern.

If a player doesn't want to decide for the club, then we can find a solution that makes everyone happy."

Gnabry began his senior career with Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, with the winger highly thought of amongst Europe’s top talents.

He made his debut in 2012 against Coventry in the League Cup, as a replacement for the now-Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

An unsuccessful loan spell with West Bromwich Albion, he kickstarted his career with Werder Bremen before moving to Bayern on a permanent deal in 2017.

He joined Hoffenheim on loan in the 2017/18 campaign, in which he faced Liverpool in a Champions League qualification match in the Reds’ first campaign in the tournament under Jurgen Klopp.

His Bayern career has gone from strength to strength, hitting double figures in the Bundesliga in every season at the club.

If he does want a new challenge, a void is there to be filled with the Reds either this campaign or next.

The German Champions and Liverpool have already been in business this summer with the sale of Sadio Mane, who was announced a Bayern player two days ago.

With Mohamed Salah’s contract situation up in the air and a complete lack of depth in that role in Klopp’s squad, Gnabry could have an opening to slot into one of the most potent attacks in the world.

The new acquisitions of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez showcase Liverpool’s desire to move in a new direction in the forward line.

Gnabry at 28 next year will be a shorter-term solution, but his undeniable quality will be an asset to any club he joins.
