Liverpool Hopeful Of Signing £42 Million Out-Of-Contract Forward

Liverpool are looking at adding winger Nico Williams to their attacking arsenal in 2023, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The Reds are potentially in competition with rivals Manchester United for the Athletic Bilbao youngster’s signature, and he could cost upwards of £20m with a year left on his deal next summer.

Liverpool have just sold his namesake ‘Neco’ Williams to Nottingham Forest, but this Nico is a completely different style of player to the Welshman.

He is the brother of Athletic Club legend Inaki Williams, who famously has played six seasons without missing a single league match in the Basque country.

It is thought that he has to choose whether to stay with his current club for the rest of his career or move across Europe now, which gives the 19-year-old a truly difficult dilemma.

He still is yet to register a senior goal in La Liga but bagged three times in all competitions last season, and is still extremely raw.

Liverpool have been proactive in the transfer window this season, bringing in Calvin Ramsay, Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez to add to their already star-studded squad.

But next summer, the likes of Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out-of-contract.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to rebuild for the final time before his likely departure in 2026.

The recruitment of Nunez (22), Luis Diaz (25), Carvalho and Ramsay - who are both still in their teens - showcase that the quest for the Reds is to have a younger, hungrier outfit ready to challenge Man City in the coming years.

A player of Williams’ ilk would be a good foil for their already blistering forward line, but with his true potential not even close to being realised, it’s likely Liverpool will pass on him.

This is unless he has a fantastic campaign out of the blue for Bilbao in which he develops his end product - unlikely.

But for the future, he is one to keep an eye on.
